On the 17th of April, ALPA-S received a call to assist in delivering food to the needy. The COVID-19 circuit breaker had caused the temporary closure of social care centres all over Singapore. This initiative started with a request for 10 pilot volunteers and 5 vehicles to deliver to 70 households in the Punggol area. Affected residents were able to obtain their food on time despite care centre closures but our pilots were committed to do more.
In the 2 weeks since ALPA-S requested for volunteers to assist in this, we have grown to over 120 pilot volunteers and family members and 24 vehicles (including bicycles!), with over 155 households receiving their much required meals through us. In addition to Punggol, our volunteers provide food to the Tampines and Sengkang regions.
Our volunteer base has even expanded to include our fellow colleagues from Scoot (thanks for the Scootitude)!
No stranger to braving the elements at work, these selfless pilots deliver through torrential downpour and scorching sun to ensure an on-time delivery of every meal to those in need.
